You Don’t have a Clue
2025 NYE Puzzle Hunt for the Free World
Walkthrough
This was a Team event similar to the game of Clue.
Each team was given a set of rules and background information about the murder of Hugo L. Fairbanks. They also received a checklist to mark off suspects that had an alibi, what weapon was not used, and the location of the murder.
The suspects were: Patrick Mulligan, Birdie Johnson, Rita & Janet Forr, Bernie “Iron” Donnelly, Marc-Antoine Farry, St. Barbara Woods, and Delbert Weiss.
The possible weapons were: Lead pipe, dynamite, ice pick, taser, robot dog, brass knuckles, fork lift, meter stick, 9mm glock, iocane powder, whip, power drill, flame thrower, knife.
When the game started, teams were given 2 random weapons they could instantly mark off their own list. These weapons also included 2 red herring weapons that had no meaning at all and meant to confuse teams: Chipper Shredder, Liquid Nitrogen. They also received a list of 7 suspects w/ information about them and their possible location:
Each card would direct the teams to a location in Bridgeville, Carnegie, Heidelberg, Glendale, etc….
At each person they found a card telling them 3 things:
- To find their weapons near them. (There were 2 weapons hidden at each person except Marc-Antoine had 1)
- An alibi for a different suspect.
- A Letter on the back of the card (used for determining location)
Patrick Mulligan's letter: T
Delbert Weiss' letter: L
Bernie Donnelly's letter: P
Barbara Wood's letter: O
Birdie Johnson's letter: F
Rita & Janet Forr's letter: O
Marc-Antoine Farry's letter: G
Every weapon was hidden at all of the suspects except the ice-pick. The ice-pick was the murder weapon.
Everyone had an alibi except Marc-Antoine Farry. He was the murderer.
The letters on the back of the cards unscramble to spell Top Golf - the location of the murder.
If any team ran into another team, they could ask them to reveal one weapon or suspect from the other team, and they had to reveal it truthfully. This can happen only once per team.
Once a team believed they had the correct information, they would meet the game creators in the middle of the locations (we were at Sheetz) to reveal their guess. If correct, they win, if not 15 minutes was added to their time and they could guess again.
At Sheetz we also had 2 weapons that the teams could mark off their list.
Other hints, tips that could help or hinder people:
- On the back of the weapons were numbers and letters that looked like could be a clue but was a red herring.
- After the game started, every team got a text saying Patrick Mulligan was under arrest and was moved from the post office to the police station.
- All of the suspects have a golf term in their name, pointing to top golf.
- All of the suspects had 2 weapons with them except Marc-Antoine, implying the he was the murderer since his 1 weapon was missing.
- Hugo L. Fairbanks also has the word "golf" in his name, pointing to Top Golf.
So therefore, it was Marc-Antoine Farry, with the ice-pick, at Top Golf.
